Unicorn-themed parties have been popular among kids’ (and adults’!) celebrations for a number of reasons: they are colorful, universally appealing, and great fun to put together! Going through hundreds of ideas and products to choose the decorations, the food, and the favors is such a feast for the eyes because everything is just so pretty. However, getting everything unicorn-themed that you need from online stores can be either: a) costly or b) too generic. This is where crafty personalities begin to have an advantage -- DIY-ing games, certain food items, and decorations can help you save money and personalize the party itself. Not crafty? No problem -- we found some easy ideas for you to try.
In most parties, the cake is the centerpiece. But what if you don’t time to make the cake? Or God forbid, you ordered a cake but the vendor tells you the last minute that they can’t deliver it in time for the party? True story. A bare table at a unicorn party sounds horrfying. Luckily, you can put together a unicorn centerpiece (or a few of it!) in couple of hours or less. All you need is a cardboard box, a party hat, some paint, glitter, hot glue, and you’re all set.
We love this tutorial for a unicorn centerpiece though admittedly, it can be a little complicated. However, you have the option to make it simple and forgeo extra elements like the glitter or the foam eyelashes (any colored art paper will do for this). The paper flowers can be fun to make but if you feel like that will be challenge, you can get paper flowers from Amazon and recycle them for another occasion to maximize its value.
This set comes with matching tassels that you can use to decorate tables further.
What is a unicorn party without a unicorn game, right? And this one is simple: pin a unicorn! A rainbow take on a party classic, instead of pinning a tail on a donkey, the kids will instead pin a horn on the unicorn.
There are tons of Pin A Horn On A Unicorn games on Amazon and they are available at different price points. But if drawing is your game, you can simply draw a unicorn on a board or a large sheet of poster paper. Draw the tail, cut it out and attach a double-sided adhesive tape on the back. You can even get the kids involved by having them color the picture before the game!
If you haven’t seen it yet, we wrote about unicorn party favors here which are always a hit with the kids: unicorn horn candies, unicorn erasers, unicorn slime…. Now, you can complete the package with a unicorn gift bag. Here’s an easy tutorial for making one on your own.
Not in the mood for party hats? Bring out the unicorn headbands then! Girls love them -- they’re simply magical. And lucky for you, easy to make! We like this step-by-step. You can get the plain headbands from Amazon , as well as the felt flowers.
The craft headbands that you will make will also work as a great party favor for your little guests to take home.
Are you a baker? Then this next idea is right up your alley -- unicorn cupcakes! Bake your favorite recipe for cupcakes then twirl them with yummy buttercream frosting the color of the rainbow (here’s how to make unicorn frosting). Make a bunch and set them on a cupcake stand on the dessert buffet! These make a fabulous alternative to a full-size unicorn cake.
Want to make things ever more easier? Instead of a multicolor swirl frosting, make a couple of single colored batches, decorate the cup cakes, and top generously with sprinkles!
